I started using the Linpus distribution coming pre-configured with the machine. Here is a page with some hints and suggestions relative to Linpus.

After a while, I got so many problems running the native linux distribution and I decided to move to a more standard distribution. I pick up Ubuntu. Here is a page with the hints and suggestions concerning Ubuntu on AspireOne SSD.

After substituting the SSD with a normal disk (with a HUGE improvement in terms of performance), I eventually installed the Netbook version of Ubuntu 10.04. It works pretty fine out of the box. I installed a little bit more sw, to support normal university tasks:

• tex, latex, prosper, Kile, to edit papers
• subversion, gcc, libboost, to support program development
• iverilog, gtkwave, to support development of computer architecture exercises
• vnc, flash, to see different video formats
• truecrypt, to support crypted files (multiplatform)
• wacom tools, to support wacom easy fun (pen & touch)

I'm still trying to have my Pegasus digital pen working with the driver found at this link. It apparently works but only when button is pressed (mouse down) which does not look too much useful …
